What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a molecule found in the body which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water - it has a gel like structure. There is no other biological substance which can retain this amount of water which makes it a fantastic moisture retainer. The average person has approximately 15g of Hyaluronic Acid in their body, one third of which is depleted and resynthesized every day. When we age our bodies are considered to be less capable of effectively synthesizing chemicals such as this which means we are not able to replace enough for the body's needs.

Where is it found in the body?

Hyaluronic Acid is found all over the body but predominantly in the skin, joints, eyes and gums.

Skin: Almost half the body's Hyaluronic Acid is found in the collagen of your skin. It is the moisture retaining properties of HA which are believed to be key here, for instance when your skin is overexposed to the sun and becomes burnt, your skin cells stop producing as much Hyaluronic Acid which increases the rate at which your skin degrades.

Joints: Hyaluronic Acid belongs to the same group of compounds as Glucosamine. It is a major component of synovial fluid whose job is to reduce friction between your joint cartilage and acts as a shock absorber and lubricant. HA is considered by many to be the perfect partner to Glucosamine.

Eyes: The first medical product for Hyaluronic Acid was made for eye surgery. It is found in the vitreous fluid in the eyes and helps to give them their shape.

Gums: Hyaluronic Acid is an important connective tissue component in the gums and helps to regenerate fresh and healthy gum tissue.

Service rating: Found in a search for an alternative suppliment supplier to the one I was using.
Paid by credit card which was easy and delivery was prompt.
Product: This was used with High Strength Glucosamine + Chondroitin tablets and I found no improvement in my sore joints
